NEW England Select will be hoping for home advantage in the second round of the NCE Soccer Winter Invitational.

They finished the first of the Winter Showcase Tournament Series with a single win in the Boys Age Group and two successes in the Girls.

Tomorrow they will have home advantage as around 500 of NCE Soccer’s best players travel to Danbury Sports Dome in Connecticut for the second of our four Winter Invitationals.

The players will be representing four NCE Soccer regions and they will be watched by more than a dozen top High School and University Coaches, scouting for players for next season.

Yale University

Universities represented will include Yale, West Conn, Wesleyan , Connecticut College, Mount Saint Vincent, Fairfield, Sarah Lawrence and more.

Long Island University, the College of Staten Island, Mount Saint Mary, NJCU, Bard, Manhattanville make up the line-up of coaches in attendance.

“It is a terrific event for all of our players but particularly the older players who have the opportunity to impress University and College Scouts,” explained NCE Soccer Founder John Curtis.

“This will be the second of four Winter Invitationals this season and follows on from the hugely successful first event at Superdome Sports in December.

Competitive

“There were some great performances from all of the players and it is always interesting to see players on a competitive scenario.

“It is a great learning experience and hugely beneficial for the players, particularly those who are preparing for college and University.

“This tournament gives College Scouts and Coaches the opportunity to study our players in action and give them a head start in the college process.”

The action at Danbury Sports Dome in CT kicks-off at 9am on Saturday and will continue until 21:00 hours with a stunning day of soccer.

The Winter Invitational will see Select teams across six age groups, in both boys and girls, competing in a day of intense competition.

NCE Soccer Select

The New England Select squad is made up of the best players from our Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut and New Hampshire venues with players from Nassau County and Suffolk County combining to represent Long Island Select.

Players from New York City, Westchester County and Hudson Valley will unite to form New York Select with the North Atlantic Select squad comprising players from New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Each team will play four 25 minute games in a seven-versus-seven format in 12 age appropriate tournaments with the top two teams playing off in the Final

The first Winter Invitation was held before Christmas at Superdome Sports on Saturday December 18th.

New York Select came out on top in the Boys Tournament winning three of the six age groups with Long Island Select second with two age group victories.

Boys Results

Long Island Select beat North Atlantic in the Boys 04/06 Final having topped the ground with two wins. They boys beat North Atlantic Select, recording a solid 4-nil win to secure first spot.

New York Select edged out New England 4-3 in an exciting Boys 07 Final. They winners had dominated their group, winning all three matches and only shipping four goals in the process.

The Boys 08 Final saw New York Select secure a 4-1 victory over New England, who had gone into the final as favourites having topped their group with seven points and remaining unbeaten.

Long Island Select did finish the job off in the Boys 09 Final having topped their group on goal difference and beating New York Metro 4-nil in the Boys 09 Final.

New York Metro pulled off a surprise win in the Boys 10 Final, beating table topping North Atlantic with four goals without reply.

The New England boys were victorious in the 2011/2012 Final after a heroic tussle with New York Metro. They won 3-2 to complete the job, having finished top of the group, one point above New York with seven points.

Girls Results 

Long Island Select beat New England Girls in the 2004 & 2006 Showcase Final having both finished tied on three points in the group alongside New York Metro Select.

New England turned defeat in the group games to New York Metro to secure a four-nil win in the 2007 Final whilst

The North Atlantic Select Girls secured a memorable victory over New England in the 2008 Final with a four-nil win the final.

Their victory was particularly satisfying given a difficult group showing whereby they recorded a solitary victory and tied in second place on three points with New York Metro and Long Island Select.

Long Island Select proved too strong in the 2009 Girls Final securing a solid two-nil victory in the Final against North Atlantic.

They had previously topped their Group and unbeaten performance, recording two wins and a draw.

New England Select recorded a handsome five-one victory over the North Atlantic in the 2010 Final having topped their group winning all three games, conceding only four goals in the process.

Long Island Select topped off a fine showing in the group games, topping their group with nine points from four games.

They had too much for the New England Select girls in the 2011/12 Final, recording a 5-2 win toe secure the honours.
